# About Affiliate Marketing

What is Affiliate Marketing?

**Affiliate marketing** is where a merchant builds a marketing plan, and then the affiliates use their own marketing channels to promote the merchant's store or products. **Affiliate marketing** is based on an order reward system in which merchants pay promoters a commission for each sales order they generate.

There are three parties: **Merchant, Affiliate** and **Customer**. Customers pay for products and get their favorite goodies. Merchants earn profits through order fulfillment, and promoters earn commissions through referrals.

### 1. Merchant

Also known as seller, brand or retailer, supplier. This is the party that creates the product. From a single entrepreneur, a small business to a large corporation, anyone can be a businessman. Merchants join affiliate programs with the goal of increasing revenue by promoting their products to customers.

### 2. Promoters

Also known as Promoter, Influencer, Partner or Ambassador. Influencers on social media, individuals placing orders on a seller's website, professional media businesses can all be promoters. The main role of an affiliate is to show potential customers the value of a merchant's product and convince them to make a purchase.

### 3. Customers

Customers are the key to every business, and their activities make or break a business. Thanks to affiliate promotions, potential customers can more easily access a merchant's products. The order placed by the customer through the affiliate's marketing behavior will become the affiliate order, which is the basis for calculating the affiliate commission.


# Common Terms

Commonly used terms in RecomSale

### 1. Affiliate program

Before doing affiliate marketing, you need to create a program in RecomSale, in which you need to set up commission rules, mainly including commission rate.

### 2. Affiliate sign-up page

After you install our app, RecomSale will automatically generate affiliate sign-up page for your brand. You can add it to your store menu to start recruiting members, ambassadors and influencers. Also, you can share this link when inviting influencers via social media or emails.

### 3. Affiliate cooperation status

The status of the affiliate's cooperation with the program includes Pending, Approved, Denied, and Stopped. Only approved affiliates can promote your store or products. Affiliates who have stopped their cooperation cannot continue to promote your store or products, but the affiliate orders and commission bills that have been generated will not be affected.

### 4. Affiliate link

Affiliate links include store links and product links. Affiliates will use these links to promote your stores or products, and any order placed through this link will become an affiliate order.

### 5. Cookies duration

Cookies duration is the maximum number of days between the last click and the order (usually 30-90 days), after a customer clicks on a affiliate's promotional link, RecomSale will record an affiliate order when the customer places an order using the same device and browser during that time and does not use another member link when placing the order. After this number of days, no clicks and referral orders will be recorded.

### 6. Affiliate's discount code

Another way for your affiliates to promote besides links. When a customer places an order via affiliate's discount code, RecomSale will record the affiliate order and commission.

### 7. Affiliate order

Any order made by customers thanks to affiliate will be counted as a affiliate order.

### 8. Commission refund order

The affiliate order has paid the commission, but in the end the customer refunds, and the promoter needs to refund the commission. The commission that needs to be refunded will be deducted in the next payment to protect your rights.

### 9. Commission bill

In the "Payments" menu, merchants can click "Generate Bills", and the system will change the status of the approved affiliate order to unpaid, and then calculate the pending commission bills based on the unpaid affiliate order and commission refund orders.

# Programs


# Create affiliate program

Before doing affiliate marketing, you need to create an affiliate program in RecomSale, in which you need to set commission rules, including regular commission rate and special product commissions.

The Commission Rate defaults to 10%, and the maximum is 90%.

Currently, the commission rule applies to all products in your store. For example, if A customer clicks the affiliate link of product A, but buys other products of the store, the referral order will still be recorded.

In the near future, we will support different commissions for special products. Stay tuned!


# Commissionable sales

Commissionable Sales is the actual sale used to calculate commissions, it does not include shipping and tax by default, you do not need to set it manually.

### The calculation method:

**Commissionable Sales** = Product Price(displayed on Shopify) - Discounts

**Commission** = Commissionable Sales \* Commission Rate

# Enable / Disabled program

When your program is enabled, RecomSale will record affiliate link clicks and affiliate orders.

### Disabled program

The shortened link will point to the original link and can track the affiliate order. Additionally, after upgrading your plan, your affiliates will also be able to operate this feature in the affiliate portal.

You or an affiliate can add the favorite products to each personalized storefront. In this way, affiliates can create different personalized storefronts and promote more precise products based on the topics of social posts and recommended products. They can also place storefront links in the Bio Page. **This feature will help you fully amplify affiliate traffic to dramatically increase more sales.**&#x20;

After upgrading your plan, your affiliates can also operate this feature in the affiliate portal.

## How merchants can use this feature

You can create a personalized storefront for your partnered affiliate based on their social media account style or social post topic.

Go to the **Affiliates** menu and click **Affiliate details**

## How affiliates can use this feature

After upgrading your plan to Professional, your affiliates can also operate this feature in the affiliate portal.

Affiliate can go to the **Personalized Storefront** menu and click **Create storefront**

Follow the instructions on the edit page to successfully create a personalized storefront. Personalized storefronts are the common assets of merchants and affiliates, and both have the same data and operation permissions.

**After the personalized storefront is created, affiliates can copy each storefront link for promotion, or share it to social media platforms with one click.**

# Affiliate Order


# How to record links clicks

When the affiliate's link is clicked, RecomSale will record the number of clicks.

On the same device and browser, multiple clicks to visit multiple links of an affiliate within a day counts as one click.


# How to record Affiliate Order

When a customer places and pays an order via an affiliate link or affiliate's discount code, RecomSale will record a affiliate order and commission. Please note that affiliate orders will be recorded only if it has been paid. If the order is pending (such as COD order), it will not be recorded until you mark the order as paid in the Shopify admin.

In the near future, we will support adding affiliate orders manually, so stay tuned!


# Affiliate Order status

### Pending

When a customer places and pays an order via an affiliate link or affiliate's discount code, RecomSale will generate a pending affiliate order. Please note that affiliate orders will not be recorded if the order is unpaid. If you want to record, please mark the order as paid in the shopify admin, and then it will be recorded.

### Approved

After the affiliate's affiliate order is approved by the merchant, the status of the affiliate order changes to Approved. Merchants can approve manually or set up automatic approval after a period of time. After approval, if you feel that the affiliate order does not meet the requirements, you can also revoke the approval and the status of the affiliate order will change to Pending. In addition, you also can invalidate the affiliate order.

### Unpaid

In the "Payments" menu, merchants can click "Generate Commission Bills" and the system will change the status of approved affiliate orders to Unpaid. After the status of the affiliate order is changed to Unpaid, if you think the affiliate order does not meet the requirements, you can invalidate it, and the commission amount will also be invalid, and the bill will not include this part of the commission.

### Paid

When a commission bill is marked as paid, the system changes the status of the affiliate orders included in the bill to Paid.

### Invalid

If a affiliate order that is pending, approved, or unpaid is fully refunded in Shopify, RecomSale will change the status of the affiliate order to invalid, and the commission amount will also be invalid, and the bill will not include this part of the commission. If only a partial refund occurs, RecomSale will update the amount on the original affiliate order without changing the status of the affiliate order.


# How to record Commission Refund Orders

Affiliate order that has paid commission every time is refunded on Shopify (excluding shipping refund), RecomSale will generate a corresponding commission refund order. The commission refund order requires the affiliate to refund the commission, and the commission that needs to be refunded will be deducted from the next payment to protect your rights and interests.

# How to pay affiliates commission

**Step 1.** Select approved orders in the order list for commission payment.

# PayPal integration

### Why should you pay with PayPal?

PayPal is a fast, convenient and secure way to pay online. You can use PayPal to send money domestically and internationally. Compared to bank transfers, PayPal seems to have the advantage of speed, convenience, and variety of options.

PayPal makes it easy to pay commissions to your affiliates, who simply provide their PayPal email address to receive their commissions.

### Setup steps

#### Step 1: Enable your PayPal Payouts

Go to the **PayPal Developer Portal** and log in to your PayPal account using your email address and password.

Then click on Account Name in the upper right corner of the portal and select **"My Account"**.

Click the switch in the upper right corner to turn sandbox mode into real-time mode.

On the **"My Account"** page, scroll down to the **"Permissions"** section > **"Payments"**. Click the **"Enable..."** link and provide the information required for PayPal activation.

According to PayPal's policy, if you are in the United States, PayPal will send you an email to notify you that they are reviewing your request. (It may take PayPal a few hours to a few days to process this request, but you can continue with the remaining steps while PayPal reviews your information.)

If you are outside the United States, you will need to contact the PayPal customer service team by referring to the image below to request this payment feature.

You'll be redirected to the [**PayPal Customer Service team**](https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp/contact-us). On the Contact page, scroll down and click on **Call us** or **Message Center** > **New Message** (you might need to log in to your PayPal account), then initiate a chat with their team and tell them you want to enable Payout permissions so they can assist you further.

Based on your communication with PayPal, they will send you an email letting you know that your request is under review. Once you are approved, the API will be marked with a <mark style="color:green;">**check mark**</mark> indicating that the Payouts API is live.

#### Step 2: Create app

Go to **App and Credentials** and click **Create App**:

Enter the app's name (e.g. RecomSale), and click **Create App** in the pop-up window.

You will then see your **Client ID** and **Secret**, which will be used in the next step.

Then scroll down to the **Features** section, check the **Payout** option, and click **Save Changes**.

#### Step 3: Start integration:

Go back to **RecomSale App** > **Settings** > **Payment settings** and click **Set up**

Enter the **Client ID** and **Client Secret** you obtained in the previous steps:

#### Step 4: Select your preferred payout security method and complete the setup

There are 2 security methods to choose from, **Google Authentication** and **Payout password**.

**Confirm payout via Google Authentication app:**

The Google Authentication app is a common and secure payout method. Whenever you pay a commission bill via PayPal within the app, you will need to enter a code generated by the Google Authentication app on your phone.

1. First, you need to download the Google Authentication app to your phone. You can download it through the [**App Store**](https://apps.apple.com/vn/app/google-authenticator/id388497605) or [**Google Play**](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.authenticator2\&hl=vi).

2. Scan the QR code using the Google Authentication app or enter the private key we provided and click **Next**

3. Enter the Google verification code displayed on your phone and click Finish to complete the integration setup process.

**Confirm payout via payout password:**

Confirming payments directly via payout password is a convenient and secure method of payment, and whenever you pay a commission bill via PayPal within the app, you can simply enter your password to make the payment.

1. Select **Payout password** as payment method

2. Set your payout password and confirm

Please make sure that the password must be 8-16 characters and include at least one number and one special character/symbol.

3. Enter the OTP code sent to your email address and finally click "Finish" to complete the integration setup process.

Once you have successfully set up your PayPal integration, you can select the commission bill in the Payment menu and start one-click payment.

# PayPal Payout

### Pay commission with PayPal

After integrating your PayPal account, you can select the commission bill in the **Payment** menu and start **one-click payment**.

Click "Pay" and select "Pay with PayPal". You will see the bill details and payment steps in the pop-up window.

After verifying the bill details, enter the email information that PayPal will send to the payee, and the Google Authentication code, or payout password (depending on the security method you have set up in your PayPal integration).

If you need to enter Google Authentication code, open the **Google Authentication app** on your phone > enter the **numeric code** that appears on your phone's screen.

Google verification code are refreshed every 30 seconds.

Finally, click **Confirm and send money** and PayPal will start processing your payment.

### Review your payment history

You can check your payment status in the Payment menu.

If the PayPal payment is successful, you will see the Payment status as **Paid** in **Paid Payments**;

If PayPal is processing your payment, you will see Payment status as **Processing** in **Pending Payments**. You can refresh later to view status updates;

If the PayPal payment fails, you will see the Payment status as **Failed** in **Pending Payments**. You can click the icon next to it to view the reason for the failure.

Your affiliate will see the paid payment in the affiliate portal and will be able to view bill details.


# Store Credit

You can choose to pay affiliates commissions in the form of store credits, store credits cannot be withdrawn directly in monetary form, your affiliates can only redeem them for coupons, which can be used to purchase products in your store.

### Set store credit redemption condition

Go to **Settings** > **Payment Settings** and you can set the redemption conditions for store credit, as well as the prefix for discount codes redeemed by affiliates.

### Pay with store credit

After you generate a commission bill on the **Affiliate Order** menu, go to **Payment**, select the pending commission payment you want to pay the commission for, and then select **Pay with store credit**.

After checking the commission bill details, click **Confirm and send credit**, the commission bill will be paid successfully and the commission on the bill will be added to the affiliate's store credit balance in the form of points.

Affiliates can view their balance in **Payments** > **Store Credits** and redeem it for coupons at any time to use on products in your store.

Go to **RecomSale admin** → click the **three-dot button** → click **Manage app**

# Custom brand domain of affiliate portal

## Create your custom domain

By default, your affiliate portal exists on our subdomain (e.g. yourdomain.recomsale.com). Our Growth plan allows you to use custom domains (e.g. **affiliate.yourdomain.com**, **partners.youdomain.com**, **ambassador.yourdomain.com**) so that you can not only remove “recomsale.com” from the URL of your affiliate portal and go completely **white label RecomSale** and also display your affiliate portal in a more branded and personalized way.

Please refer to the following **3 steps** to complete the setting of the custom domain:

### **Step 1.  Create CNAME record**

Create a CNAME record for your desired domain (e.g. affiliate.yourdomain.com) and point it to **partners.recomsale.com**

### **Step 2.**  Wait for CNAME record to take effect

Please note that it takes up to 24 hours for the CNAME record to take effect, please be patient\~

#### **Enter your custom domain**

Go to **RecomSale App** > **Settings** > **Affiliate portal**, fill in the brand domain you just customized and click **Submit** to complete the custom domain.

## What to do after creating custom domain successfully?&#x20;

Rest assured, there is no special action required on your part. The affiliate login link on your affiliate sign-up page and in the affiliate notification emails will automatically be replaced with your custom domain, and your affiliates will see the affiliate portal for your custom domain. Additionally, your affiliate portals that exist on our subdomains (such as yourdomain.recomsale.com) are not affected and remain accessible.


# Tracking by affiliate link

## Cookies duration

The default Cookies Duration is 30 days, and the supported range is 15-365 days;

Cookies duration is the maximum number of days between the last click and the order (usually 30-90 days), after a customer clicks on an affiliate link, RecomSale will record a affiliate order when the customer places and pays an order using the same device and browser during that time. After cookies duration, no clicks and affiliate orders will be recorded.

If a customer clicks on different affiliate's links one after the other, and then places an order for payment, the referred order will only be attributed to the last clicked affiliate.


# Tracking by discount code

When a customer places and pays an order via affiliate's discount code, RecomSale will record the affiliate's affiliate order and commission.

**Auto-generated discount code**

Automatically generate a discount code when the affiliate's application is approved by you.

If you enable this feature, the auto-approval page in the affiliate sign-up page will display an auto-generated discount code for the affiliates. Like this:

# Automatic approval

## Auto-approve affiliate

We recommend turning on automatic approval of affiliate's applications for your affiliate program.

This can increase the enthusiasm of affiliates and promote your store or products earlier.

## Auto-approve affiliate order

Affiliate Orders brought by affiliates will be automatically approved after this number of days (manual approval is still supported when this feature is enabled)

This number of days is set by you, and we recommend that this number of days can be equal to: average fulfillment completion time of historical orders + possible refund time.

Auto-approve affiliate orders increases your work efficiency. Don't worry, after the affiliate order is approved, if you think the affiliate order does not meet the requirements, you can also revoke the approval, and the status of the affiliate order will be changed to pending, or you can also invalidate the recommended order.

If the affiliate order is fully refunded in Shopify, RecomSale will change the status of the affiliate order to invalid, and the commission amount will also be invalid, and the bill will not include this part of the commission. If only a partial refund occurs, RecomSale will update the amount on the original affiliate order without changing the status of the affiliate order.

# Use Merchant email as the sender's email

By default, the sender email address for emails sent to your affiliates is **<no-reply@recomsale.com>**

In this default option, the merchant cannot receive the email when the affiliate replies to it.

If you would like to use your branded email address as the sender address, go to the **Settings** > **Email notifications** and enable **Use your branded email address as sender's**

By enabling this feature, not only will emails sent to affiliates appear with the merchant's branded email as the sender email, making your emails fully branded, but when the affiliate replies to the email, the merchant will also receive that reply , and can conduct follow-up email communication with affiliates.
